In 1774, the Dutch established the world’s first collective investment schemes, and they have changed little since then. We have witnessed investments trusts and unit trusts, and then along came ETFs. But tokenisation, of what PwC believes will be $200 trillion asset management by 2030, will potentially impact anyone who has a pension or an ISA.

Meanwhile, a report from the FCA sets out guidance to support innovation in fund tokenisation, introducing an optional new model for direct dealing in conventional and tokenised authorised funds. It provides a roadmap to advance fund tokenisation and address key barriers, and is neither a discussion paper nor a research exercise but clear guidance. The FCA launched Project Innovate leading the world by creating the first regulatory sandbox in 2016.
