Despite massive investments into data protection from online security threats, cyber-attacks have not relented in their frequency and aggressiveness. As long as there has been access to information on the internet, nefarious actors and hackers have always sought to illegally infiltrate corporate and government networks. In 2020, Google disclosed the details of a cyber-attack launched against its servers in 2017. Described as a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, it continued for six months before the company could end the assailment. Amazon Web Services were forced to combat a similar DDoS attack in 2020 and so did Yandex, a Russian-based search engine, a year later. However, it is not only the tech giants which are attacked on the web. In 2022, companies incurred costs of $6 trillion from cyber-attacks with about 2,200 of these happening daily.
