Decentralized storage in blockchain
When you store and share data across a blockchain network of linked nodes, you do not need a central authority or a single point of control. This is called decentralized storage and data is stored across multiple systems using peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, as opposed to centralized storage where data is kept in one location such as a data centre. With independent storage, you do not have to figure out "where data is" but how can I most efficiently access the data. In terms of understanding how decentralization actually works, StorX is a good example. In order to send a file to StorX's network, the user needs a username and password and, behind the scenes, the network creates a unique private key which can also be referred to as a recovery phrase. StorX creates a file encryption, breaks up the data into several pieces and sends the data to independent nodes worldwide.
