The paradox of digital property: why legal recognition doesn’t guarantee liquidity
UK legislation now recognises digital assets as a distinct property class but does do little to solve the core problem of turning tokens into working capital. Legal status clarifies what digital assets are, not how banks, accountants, tax authorities and courts will treat them as collateral in real-world finance. Until credit, custody, valuation, insurance and market infrastructure mature, recognition risks amplifying founders’ liabilities and institutional power without delivering meaningful liquidity.
