Gender inequality in the metaverse
The metaverse is still a mystery to many people, being often thought of as an "extra layer" of the internet. This rapidly evolving technology allows users to fully immerse themselves in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences in 3D, but because the metaverse is predominantly in its early stages of development, it means that investors and CEOs will be the ones deciding its future. However, what roles women will have in this? When asked, Dr Jane Thomason Chair of the World Metaverse Council, stated: “There are opportunities for everyone in the Web3 Metaverse. Creators, builders, educators and artists. Access will be universal and opportunities boundless. It will provide new markets and opportunities globally. As a 24/7 global market which rewards creators - what better time for women to stand up and be counted.”
