Tokenized money market funds: institutional capital’s first mainstream foray into blockchain technology

The jury is still out as to whether all crypto assets, minus Bitcoin, will be classed as securities or not, as defined by US regulation. But there is no doubt that money market funds fall under the SEC’s purview and traditional financial institutions are rushing to tokenize them. The imminent approval of a Bitcoin ETF in the US has renewed positive investor sentiment in crypto markets. According to reports on X, formerly Twitter, BlackRock's planned iShares Bitcoin Trust has been listed on the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) website, and it was confirmed the proposed ETF was added back in August. The compounded effect from revived optimism in crypto price action is institutions investigating how traditional financial products can benefit from blockchain technology.
